As the title correctly puts it, this episode is not so much about ice levels. Although Bryan the Host claims the opposite, his Disembodied pals are too busy singing, playing video games, and being in a coma to listen. That topic is left out in the cold for some honest discussion about things that Stephen shouldn’t like but does– Battlefield 4 and Tomb Raiders– along with Cameron’s mild infatuation with Tearaway. The Final Fantasy and Metal Gear franchises also get a thorough talking-to, bogged down delightfully with numbered sequels and incomprehensible storylines. As for Bryan, he’s been asking for Papers, Please as he struggles to support his family, morals warring with money in a monotonous game of empathetic intrigue. Two History Times and bunch of silly jokes round this adventure out to be the best one since Episode 105.
Mighty podcasting powers combine in this all-star edition of Disembodied Voices (which essentially means all four regulars showed up this time). Guild Wars 2 is the center of attention, going so far as to achieve the Zachary Seal of Approval, a slightly more illustrious award than Cameron’s Game Changer trophy awarded to The Walking Dead. Further discussions include Battlefield 3 and its allegedly overpowered anti-air weaponry, the shocking quality of I Am Alive, and– naturally– the escapades of Stephen and Bryan in World of Wacraft, cut short by a certain disgruntled gentleman who will not be named. (It’s Cameron.) A brand new segment known as PokeMYSTERY has the DV cast determining which Pokemon names are real and which are totally made up. Conkeldurr and Amoeboar send their regards. It is thoroughly recommended that you grab a snack, recline in your seating of choice, and listen to Disembodied Voices Episode 54, the theater of the ear.
